Awards and Recognition
Welcome to our council’s source for information about official awards and recognition. This is where the most up-to-date information about Scouting America-related awards may be found, including award applications and nomination forms.
Awards are organized by the committees responsible for each honor. Committee members make the final decision on evaluating nominees.

Adult Distinguished Conservation Service Award
- Recognizes adult volunteers with 3+ years encouraging Scouts in natural resource conservation
- Nominations accepted throughout the year by email to our Conservation Committee
Asian American Spirit of Scouting Service Award
- Recognizes adults and organizations advancing Scouting opportunities for Asian American youth

Duty to God Award
- Recognizes registered adult members of Scouting who display exemplary leadership supporting Scouting’s spiritual foundation

Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award
- Recognizes teachers, school staff, and administrators who instill Scouting values in students
- Nominations are accepted throughout the year

Exploring Leadership Award
- Recognizes Exploring youth members and adult leaders for exceptional leadership in Exploring programs
- Nominations are due by December 31 by email to the Exploring Committee
North Star Award
- Recognizes adults not registered in Scouting who have made significant contributions to Scouting
- Nominations can be dropped off at or mailed to Fickett Center, 12500 N. IH-35 Austin, TX 78753 or emailed to Ron Settele at [email protected]
Sea Scout Leadership Award
- Recognizes Sea Scouting youth and adult leaders for exceptional contributions to Sea Scouting
- Nominations are due by December 31 by email to the Sea Scouting Committee
Silver Beaver Award
- Recognizes registered adult members of Scouting for exceptional council-level service to youth

¡Scouting… Vale la Peña! Service Award
- Recognizes adult Scouting volunteers providing exceptional service to Hispanic youth

Torch of Gold Award
- Recognizes youth and adult members of Scouting for outstanding service to Scouts with special needs

Venturing Leadership Award
- Recognizes youth and adult members of Scouting providing exceptional service to Venturing
- Nominations are due by December 31 by email to the Venturing Committee
Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award
- Recognizes adults and organizations serving at-risk youth in rural and urban communities
- Nominations can be dropped off at or mailed to Fickett Center, 12500 N. IH-35 Austin, TX 78753 or emailed to Ron Settele at [email protected]
William H. Spurgeon III Award
- Recognizes adults and organizations providing exceptional service to Exploring
- Nominations are due by December 31 by email to the Exploring Committee
Young Philanthropist Award
- Recognizes adults aged 18-26 fostering international Scouting philanthropy and alumni engagement
- Nominations are due by December 31 by email to the International Committee

- These awards are managed (reviewed, selected, and/or processed) by our council’s National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) Committee and presented at a suitable event, activity, or time
Distinguished Eagle Scout Award (DESA)
- Recognizes Eagle Scouts (25 and older) who have achieved national-level eminence in their career or field of service
- Nominations are due between April 1-July 31 by email to our council NESA Committee
NESA Distinguished Service Award
- Recognizes exemplary and committed leadership and/or service to NESA resulting in a substantial impact on a national or regional scale
- Nominations are due by October 31 by email to our council NESA Committee
NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award (NOESA)
- Recognizes Eagle Scouts with distinguished service at the local, state, or regional level
- Nominations are due by December 31 by completing the website form linked below
NESA Silver Wreath Award
- Recognizes local NESA Committee members for individual leadership or service
- Nominations are due by December 31 by email to our council NESA Committee
Byron Lockhart Eagle Scout Scholarship
- Academic scholarships awarded to Scouts who earned the rank of Eagle in our council
- Scholarships may be used for any postsecondary, certification, or trade education
- Nominations are due by December 1 by completing the website form linked below
- Staff Advisor: Jon C. Yates
- Nominations due by October 15
- These awards are managed (reviewed and selected) by our council’s Alumni Committee and presented at a suitable event, activity, or time
Alumni Award
- Recognizes registered adult members of Scouting who actively promote alumni activities, service, and development of memories, marketing, mentoring, membership, manpower, and money
- Individuals submit the award application upon completion of the six requirements by email to our council’s Alumni Committee
Council Alumnus of the Year Award
- Recognizes Scouting alumni who have made significant, sustained contributions to the alumni movement and their community
- Award is a certificate
- Nominations are due by October 15 by email to our council’s Alumni Committee
Council Distinguished Alumnus Award
- Recognizes Scouting alumni who use the skills learned in Scouting to make a positive impact in the community
- Nominations are due by October 15 by email to our council’s Alumni Committee
Scouting Alumni Service Commemoration
- Recognizes Scouting alumni for service to youth via their community, profession, religion, and other youth-serving organizations over 25, 50, or 75 years
- As this is not an award there is no formal nomination nor deadline
- Recipients or presenting units may purchase the recognition on their own
Veteran Award
- Recognizes registered adult members for years of continuous service to Scouting
- Award application is submitted to the District Executive serving the Scouter’s geographic area
- Awards are available for tenures of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30+ years
- Staff Advisor: Andra Allen
- Presented annually at the Distinguished Citizen Award Luncheon (DCAL) in February
Distinguished Citizen Award
- Honors individuals who share Scouting’s belief in leadership, determination, and values, and have contributed significantly to the growth and vitality of our community
- Nominations are accepted throughout the year by email to the DCAL Committee
- Staff Advisor: PJ Brown
Distinguished Service Award
- Recognizes Order of the Arrow members for distinguished service to the Order at the sectional, regional, or national level
- The award is presented every years at the National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC)
- Nomination for the 2027 award can be submitted online using the link below between November 1, 2026, and January 31, 2027
Founder's Award
- Recognizes Order of the Arrow members who have given outstanding service to their lodge and demonstrated they personify the spirit of selfless service
- Nominations are due by November 30 by email to the Lodge Executive Committee
