Thanks to its generous donation, Texas EcoGrow will plant dozens of new native trees throughout camping and activity areas at our Smilin V Scout Ranch in Liberty Hill. The donated trees will be 30-gallon, ten foot tall Chinkapin Oak and Cedar Elms. In addition, Texas EcoGrow will provide and install irrigation to make sure these new trees survive their initial planting and grow into legacy trees that will benefit generations to come.
You can help maximize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and make sure that Scouts and community youth groups visiting Smilin V in the future will enjoy shade during hot Texas summers, while also improving the local ecosystem in the surrounding Liberty Hill area.
Each tree costs $600 to plant and install irrigation. Your tax deductible donation between now and February 14, 2026, will add more trees and directly benefit Central Texas youth, now and in the future. No matter how much you can contribute, every dollar you give goes directly to another tree being planted in Spring 2026.
*Please consider making your Smilin in the Shade donation in addition to your annual Friends of Scouting gift*
Why plant more trees at Smilin V?
Tree planting will help provide much-needed shade and gathering spaces at campsites and activity areas throughout Smilin V’s nearly 100 acres. These native trees will help support outdoor enjoyment for generations to come in the Liberty Hill area.
Why give now?
Trees, even native species, need to be planted by the end of Spring to help ensure their survival during the first year of summer heat stress. All money donated by February 14, 2026, will be used to plant more trees in addition to Texas EcoGrow’s generous contribution of trees, planting, and irrigation installation.
Does this project only benefit Scouts?
Not at all. In addition to its mission of supporting Scouting programming, Smilin V is an outdoor learning and recreational space for school, church, and other community partners in the Liberty Hill, Williamson County, and greater hill country areas. Plus, these new trees will help provide essential ecosystem services for the surrounding community, such as water purification, air quality improvement, and biodiversity conservation. Also, land with robust tree coverage is also better equipped to handle natural disasters like flooding.
