Report and Purchase COSMIC Awards

Report a Completed COSMIC Award

COSMIC is a Capitol Area Council recognition program and is not reported through a standard advancement report. Follow the process below after a participant completes First Steps, a topic patch, or the advanced Pin.

First Steps and Topic Patches

  1. Confirm that the participant completed every applicable requirement with a COSMIC Counselor.*
  2. Update the COSMIC Award Tracking Spreadsheet or the unit’s equivalent record.
  3. Have the Counselor or designated unit advancement volunteer submit the online COSMIC Patch Reporting Form.
  4. The STEM Committee will verify completions and email each participant a purchase-authorization email; please expect a week for our volunteers to respond. Email confirmation will be sent to all parties on the completion form: participant, unit leader, and COSMIC Counselor.
  5. Purchase the base patch or topic patch through the Capitol Area Council Scout Shop.
  6. Present the award at a unit meeting, event, campout, or other appropriate recognition opportunity.

*For council events where COSMIC is offered, the organizing committee will provide the STEM Committee a list of participants who completed COSMIC awards.

Purchase and Advanced Awards

COSMIC Pin — Coming Soon

  1. The approved Mentor confirms completion and submits the COSMIC Pin Application with all required supporting materials.
  2. The CAC STEM Committee verifies the application and reviews the supporting work.
  3. The committee interviews the candidate about the STEM experience.
  4. After approval, a CAC STEM Committee representative presents the Pin at an appropriate unit or council opportunity.

Participants Outside Capitol Area Council

Participants from councils outside CAC are very welcome to participate in the COSMIC STEM award program. The Capitol Area Council STEM Committee is interested in connecting with other councils to bring the COSMIC program to other areas. Please contact the committee before starting the program and before purchasing awards so that interest, reporting, eligibility, and delivery arrangements can be confirmed.
